FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball finished among the top four in the North Atlantic Conference in 2011, and the league's head coaches believe the Beavers will wind up among the top four again this season.
That was the verdict that was handed down Friday as the NAC preseason women's volleyball coaches' poll was released.
UMaine-Farmington earned 40 points in the voting, and trailed third-place Maine Maritime by 10 points. Colby-Sawyer captured the top spot with 63 points and seven first-place votes, while Husson was second with 52 points and one first-place vote.
Lyndon State (27 pts.), Green Mountain (22 pts.), Johnson State (18 pts.), and Castleton (16 pts.) rounded out the bottom half of the poll.
The Beavers are led by junior pin hitter Jen Vadnais (Arundel, Maine/Biddeford) with 75 kills (0.96/set) and sophomore libero Marina Tello (San Antonio, Texas) with 262 digs (3.49/set). UMF finished third in the NAC a year ago with a 5-2 conference mark, 14-10 overall.
UMF opens its 2012 season at home on Wednesday, Sept. 5, when it hosts Unity College at 7:00 p.m. at Dearborn Gymnasium.
