Beavers among nation's best in aces per set

FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball team was seventh in the nation in aces per set according the recently released NCAA Division III statistical rankings.

The Beavers averaged 3.3 aces per set this fall. North Atlantic Conference foe Maine Maritime Academy led the nation with 4.29 aces per set.

UMF's service has been successful at the national level, finishing seventh or better in NCAA Division III for eight of the past nine seasons. The Beavers were NCAA Division III statistical champions in aces per set in 2003.

Whitney Walls (Bar Harbor, Maine) was tops on the team with 0.67 aces per set, good for 33rd in the country, followed by Bridget Flaherty (Plymouth, Mass.) with 0.64 (46th).

The Beavers finished their season with a 14-10 record.
