FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington served up 25 aces as the Beavers cruised to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-21) win over the University of Southern Maine in non-conference action this evening at Dearborn Gymnasium.
The Beavers (8-8) are scheduled to host the UMF Invitational Friday and Saturday. Friday's docket includes UMF vs. University of Maine at Presque Isle at 6 p.m. followed by UMPI vs. University of Maine at Fort Kent at 8 p.m. The Huskies remained winless at 0-15 with a trip to the University of New England Saturday to face the host Nor'easters (11 a.m.) and Maine Maritime Academy (1 p.m.).
Whitney Walls (Bar Harbor, Maine) led the Beavers' successful service with a career-best 11 aces, while Bridget Flaherty (Plymouth, Mass.) supplied four and Amanda Mullane (Melrose, Mass.) and Marina Tello (San Antonio, Texas) three apiece.
Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) stroked eight kills in 10 error-free attacks in the win with Walls and Flaherty handing out 11 and 10 assists, respectively.
Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) led USM with four kills, while Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine) collected a game-high six digs.
