Women's volleyball starts NAC play with two wins

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball team opened North Atlantic Conference play with a pair of victories at Lyndon State College.

The Beavers (4-8 overall, 2-0 in the NAC) dispatched the host Hornets 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-13) and Johnson State College 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-8).

Versus Lyndon, Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) led the way with 13 kills while teammate Katie Allen (Bucksport, Maine) chipped in 19 assists, 10 digs and four services aces.

Christine Bailey had four kills to lead the Hornets and Ally Ciaramitaro added 11 digs, five assists and two aces.

Versus Johnson, Mitchell had 11 kills and four aces in the match and Allen, despite playing only one set, amassed 10 assists. Bridget Flaherty (Plymouth, Mass.) had eight assists, five digs and five aces for Farmington and Anya Staszko (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had a team-high seven digs.
