Women's volleyball set down by St. Joseph's

FARMINGTON --The University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball team fell to 2-8 with a 3-0 non-conference loss to St. Joseph's College tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Set scores went 25-16, 25-21 and 25-23.

The Beavers are scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference play Saturday at Lyndon State College with matches against the Hornets (noon) and Johnson State College (4 p.m.). The Monks (10-6) are slated to visit Regis College on Friday at 7 p.m.

Alyssa Grigware (Biddeford, Maine) notched seven kills to lead the Monks' attack, while Kiah Begley (Berwick, Maine) added six kills and 15 assists. St. Joseph's turned in 15 services aces, headlined by Begley with four and Grigware with three.

Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored a match-high eight kills for Farmington with Katie Allen (Bucksport, Maine) dished out 15 assists, collected a match-best six digs and three service aces.
