Mitchell named to All-NAC First Team

FARMINGTON -- University of Maine at Farmington junior middle blocker Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) was named the All-North Atlantic Conference Women's Volleyball First Team as announced by the conference today.

Mitchell leads the Beavers in kills (157), hitting percentage (.207), service aces (62), digs (129) and total blocks (45). The junior was recognized on the All-NAC Second Team in 2008 and 2009.

Maine Maritime Academy swept the postseason awards with Chelsea Ward being selected as the NAC Player of the Year, Lauren Sakahara as the NAC Defensive Player of the Year, Melissa Lail as the NAC Rookie of the Year and Katrina Dagan as the NAC Coach of the Year.

Johnson State College received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

The third-seeded Beavers (9-12) are scheduled to take on No. 2 Husson University in the NAC semifinals Friday at 8 p.m. at Maine Maritime Academy.
