Women's volleyball can't keep up with Colby-Sawyer

FARMINGTON -- Colby-Sawyer College handled University of Maine at Farmington 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-11) in non-conference women's volleyball action tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers (6-11) are slated to visit St. Joseph's College Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match. The Chargers (12-10) are scheduled to visit Colby College Saturday to face the host Mules (3 p.m.) and Maine Maritime Academy (1 p.m.).

Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) powered Colby-Sawyer with 13 kills, while Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) chipped in 11 kills. Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) doled out 20 assists and notched six of the Chargers' 17 service aces with Ally Le_Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) posting a match-high 13 digs.

Jennifer Tupper (Lamoine, Maine) led Farmington with three kills with Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) collecting four total blocks and Whitney Walls (Bar Harbor, Maine) eight digs.

The Beavers hung with the Chargers in the early stages of the first set with a 9-8 lead, but Sawyer held service for nine straight points, including four aces, in the first set win. Colby-Sawyer held Farmington to negative hitting percentages in the next two sets for the 3-0 final.
