Beavers Win with Second Half Surge

Canton, NY – The UMF Women's basketball team traveled through the snow and cold to battle the SUNY Canton Kangaroos in Canton, NY on Friday evening. The Beavers came out red hot in the second half, propelling to a 65-42 win over the Kangaroos.

 

In the Box:

  • Tia Day and Page Brown led the way for the Beavers, both tying with a game high 14 points. Day had a quality shooting night going 4-8 from three-point range, also adding two assists and two rebounds. Brown went 5-9 from the floor, 4-6 from the free throw line, and had seven rebounds, including five offensive boards.
  • Alex Bessey followed with 13 points for the Beavers. Bessey filled up the box sheet with six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks.
  • McKenna Brodeur nearly finished with a double-double, scoring eight points on 4-11 shooting and grabbing seven rebounds. As a team the Beavers owned the glass, outrebounding SUNY Canton 57-31 and collecting 25 offensive rebounds to the Kangaroos five.
  • Autumn Watkins was the high point scorer for the Kangaroos with 14 points. Watkins shot 3-9 from the floor but constantly got to the line shooting 7-9 from the charity stripe. Joie Culkin followed with a 12 point, 12 rebound double-double for the Roos.

The Beavers will finish their season series against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., right back at Stan Cohen Court in Canton, NY.
