HENNIKER, N.H. – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team (11-2, 9-7) could not overcome a 13-point deficit at the end of the first quarter as New England College (17-7, 11-6) won the North Atlantic Conference matchup, 77-54, on Saturday afternoon.
Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay) recorded her third straight double-double with 15 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Smith was 5-of-11 from the floor and made five trips to the foul line. Kelly Pomerleau (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) tied Smith with a team-high 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting and found her stroke from long range by knocking down 4-of-6 attempts. Kennadi Grover (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) had a solid outing for the Beavers with 14 points and six rebounds.
New England College's starters powered the offense as four out of the five reached double figures. Utshana Durham led all scorers with 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Breana Ramirez notched a double-double of her own with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Ramirez was a defensive presence with 10 defensive boards, four steals, and three blocks while dishing six assists. Marjani Lillard added 14 points and made all six trips to the line and Maranda Parker rounded out the Pilgrims' scoring with 12 points.
UMaine-Farmington will play the final road game of the regular season on Wednesday at Maine Maritime.
