BOSTON, Mass. – University of Maine at Farmington (0-2) women's basketball senior Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region) recorded her ninth career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Beavers in Sunday's 74-46 non-conference loss at Emerson College on the final day of the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament.
Smith had strong second half with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the final 20 minutes. The senior shot 4-of-10 and sank both free throws in the final two quarters while shooting 6-of-15 overall and 3-of-6 from the line.
The Beavers had a balanced scoring attack with Kelly Pomerleau (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic) and Elizabeth Ferry (Winslow, Maine/Winslow) each contributing six points. Cheyenne Malloy (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) and Kennadi Grover (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) added five points apiece.
Emerson had a hot first quarter on 7-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-7 from long range for 22 points. In the final three quarters combined, the UMF defense stepped up and held the Lions to 5-of-19 from beyond the arc.
The Lions used a balanced scoring attack of their own with a game-high 21 points from Charlie Boyle. Emerson also had three other players score in double figures with Sierra Ducey leading the starters with 15 points and Eastin Ashby also added 14 points. Elizabeth Horan scored 12 points off the bench.
UMaine-Farmington plays the home opener on Friday, November 19 against Bates at 7:00 p.m.
