FARMINGTON, Maine – Meghan Smith's second consecutive double-double led the University of Maine at Farmington (9-11, 8-5) to a regular season sweep over conference rival Lyndon State College with a, 69-59, victory on Friday night at Dearborn Gymnasium.
Lyndon led by as many as six points in the opening nine minutes. UMF kept hitting the needed jump shots to keep the game close until senior Bianca Stoutamyer nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at, 24-24, with 1:14 remaining. The Hornets scored the next four points to take the four-point lead into the locker room. Second chance points kept the first half close for the Beavers. Despite trailing at the break, UMF outscored Lyndon, 10-4, on the offensive glass.
Coming out of the break, the Beavers turned defense into offense. A pair of turnovers led to layups and UMF held its first lead of the contest two minutes into the final period and the Beavers never trailed for the rest of the night. After taking over, Farmington's lead climbed to double-digits with 10 minutes left in the game.
Meghan Smith powered the Beavers with 14 points and 11 rebounds on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Lindsay Ranquist added 13 points and six rebounds. Lyndon's Aimee Thompson led all scorers with 16 points and four rebounds.
UMaine-Farmington plays Johnson State on Saturday afternoon in Dearborn Gymnasium at 3:00 p.m. Lyndon continues its conference road trip on Saturday at Thomas College with a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
