HENNIKER, N.H. – The University of Maine at Farmington (7-11, 6-5) were outmatched at New England College in Friday night's conference battle. The Beavers fell, 74-47, behind another strong outing from junior forward Meghan Smith.
New England College improves to 14-3 overall and 8-3 in conference play. The Pilgrims rank third in the North Atlantic Conference standings. Tonight's loss moves Farmington into fifth place in the standing --one game ahead of Johnson State.
UMF struggled from the floor and the foul line in tonight's meeting. The Beavers shot 36.0% (18-50) from the field and 35.5% (11-31) from the charity stripe. New England College shot nearly the same as UMF, 39.7% (27-68), but made up the difference from long range (40.0%) and the free throw line (66.7%).
Smith led the Beavers with 10 points and six rebounds. Elizabeth Ferry added 9 points and grabbed four rebounds. NEC's Taylor Burgess recorded a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds.
UMaine-Farmington will try to get back on track tomorrow afternoon at Colby-Sawyer. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
