Smith Sets a New Career-High as Women's Hoops Survives Thomas

FARMINGTON, Maine – Meghan Smith grabbed career-high 16 rebounds to compliment her 15 points as the University of Maine at Farmington swept the regular season series against Thomas (1-13, 0-8) with a, 74-65, North Atlantic Conference victory at Dearborn Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers held a, 42-26, advantage at the break but the Terriers cut the lead to six points in the first seven minutes of the second half with a, 17-8, run. The teams traded baskets until UMF answered with a counter run of 16-5 and increased its lead to 63-49 with six minutes left in the game.

In the final two minutes, the Terriers battled their way back into the contest and trimmed the lead again to single-digits but UMF nailed the needed free-throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

Smith recorded her double-double on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Kennadi Smith finished only two points shy of tying a career-high with 19 points and seven rebounds. Thomas' Ashleigh Gagne led all scorers with 24 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
