The Finals for the Park Shark Challenge were held Friday night and Saturday at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry Maine. The Park Shark 2017 series has held Rail Jam and Slopestyle events for all Freeskiers and Snowboarders at 5 different resorts across the state. The folks at SundayRiver went above and beyond to provide excellent venues, a first class competition crew and event management.
The venue for Friday nights Rail Jam under the lights featured the opportunity for plenty of technical maneuvers and the riders delivered with big rail tricks and floaty grabs. Freeskiing brothers Chris and Connor Starr from Springfild VT slayed the course linking sollid runs with style and amplitude for a 1st and 2nd place finish. Ben McCarthy from Saco, Maine dug deep into his bag of tricks to walk away with a 3rd place finish. UMF Junior Ben Ambergey finished 4th followed by Junior Vaughn Keenhold and sophomore Rowan Stamp with a 5th and 6th.
Freshman Snowboarder Mckinle Goozey threw down several solid runs to walk away with a 1st place followed by Junior Connor Dunn with a 2nd.
Saturday's slopestyle course was held in the 3D terrain park and featured 2 rail pads and two jumps under sunny skies and soft snow. The great conditions set the tone for some dynamic riding and the athletes continually raised the bar throughout the competition. Once again Freeskiing brothers Chris and Connor Starr rode to a 1st and 2nd place with locked rail tricks and floaty inverts. UMF sophomore Ben Ambergey landed several solid runs with switch tricks and loads of style for the 3rd place spot. Junior Caleb Marshall stomp some big spins to earn a 4th place followed by Junior Vaughn Keenhold and sophomore Rowan Stamp in 5th and 6th place.
Freshman Snowboarder McKinley Goozey continued his strong riding, locking his rails sections and sending jumps with style to grab 1st place while Junior Connor Dunn came away with 2nd.
