Labbe Leads UMF in First Day of USCSA Nationals

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – University of Maine at Farmington nordic skier Alisha Labbe (Turner, Maine/Leavitt) led the team with a 27th place finish in the opening day of the 2016 United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championship on Tuesday morning.

Labbe placed 27th overall with a time of 1:18:35.8 in the women's nordic 15-kilometer classic mass race. The sophomore earned 220.38 race points in the opening event of championship week.

In the men's nordic 15-kilometer classic mass, Calen Mendall (Manchester, Maine/Home School) guided the Beavers in 37th place after crossing the line at 59:11.8. Bryce Neal (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) followed in 42nd place at 1:02.24.1. Mendall earned 154.02 race points in the first race and Neal came away with 205.67 race points.

The UMaine-Farmington nordic and snowboard teams will compete in day two of the USCSA National Championship on Wednesday.
