Golas Leads UMF Alpine at Sunday River

NEWRY, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington alpine skier Mitchell Golas (Brookline, N.H./Brookline) guided the alpine ski team with a 32nd place finish in Saturday's United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Thompson Division giant slalom race at Sunday River.

Golas finished the race with a time of 1:46.48 for the 32nd place finish out of 57 qualified racers. Jacob Violette (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) raced his way to a 48th place finish after posting a 2:21.08 total time. Alex Greenleaf (Livermore Falls, Maine/Spruce Mountain) rounded out the men's scoring in 52nd at 2:31.43.

In the women's race, Paige Butterfield (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain) placed 42nd out of 62 qualified racers with a combined time of 2:01.00.

The UMaine-Farmington nordic team hits the course again on Sunday at Black Mountain and the alpine team returns to the slopes at Sunday River.
