WEST FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington Nordic skier Calen Mendall (Manchester, Maine/Home School) finished as the best racer in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Katadhim Nordic races held at Titcomb Mountain on Saturday afternoon.
In the men's seven-kilometer race, Mendall earned the top spot with an overall time of 13:54. Bryce Neal (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) ranked third overall behind Bates' Ben Palmer with a time of 14:11. In sixth place, Joshua Richards (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) crossed the line at 17:57 and Salvatore Azzaretti (Newcastle, Maine/Lincoln) followed in eighth place (26:49).
In the women's seven-kilometer duel, Alisha Labbe (Turner, Maine/Leavitt) ranked third overall at 17:06. Less than three minutes later, Megan Morrison (Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) followed in fourth place for the Beavers. Ellie Pinto (Essex, Vt./Essex) came in sixth place (20:58) and Krystal Blood (East Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) was right behind her in seventh place (24:07).
In the men's one-kilometer race, Mendall was the top skier and crossed the line just shy of the four-minute mark at 3:54. Neal only trailed Mendall by five seconds for a third place finish. Richards finished with an overall time of 5:17 for seventh place and Azzaretti trailed in eighth place (7:19).
The women's one-kilometer race was nearly an exact replica of the seven kilometer results. Labbe placed third (4:52) with Morrison (5:20) coming in fourth. Pinto raced her way to a sixth place finish and crossed at the six-minute mark.
Christina Kouros (Cape Elizabeth, Maine / Cape Elizabeth) had a time of 5:14 in the Titcomb trail loop and 8:23 in the airport loop.
UMaine-Farmington alpine returns to the slopes at Lost Valley on Sunday afternoon while the snowboard team opens the season at Shawnee Park.
