BEND, Ore. – Emily Ramsey placed fourth overall in the 2015 United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association Female Freestyle Sprint National Championship (USCSA) on Wednesday afternoon at Mt. Bachelor.
Ramsey earned the third place finish after a very competitive race with St. Olaf's College's (Minn.) Piper Bain and Nora Gilbertson. With 41 racers, Bain won the event with an overall time of 2:46.9 and Gilbertson followed two seconds behind. Ramsey trailed Bain by exactly four seconds.
In the final turn of the course, the final four qualified skiers were neck-and-neck and in the leg of the race, Bain and Gilbertson pulled away from the competition.
In the semifinal qualifier, Ramsey pushed her way into the finals by half of a ski length. She was even with Wyoming's Sierra Jech in the last few feet of the race until Ramsey edged Jech for a qualifying spot in the championship race.
UMaine-Farmington uses Thursday as an off day but returns to the course on Friday for the USCSA 15k Freestyle National Championship.
