LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The University of Maine at Farmington completed its first day of competition at the 2014 United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championship with four competitors completing the challenging Whiteface Mountain giant slalom course.

David Berthiaume was UMaine-Farmington's top finisher, posting a combined time of 2:26.54 to place 62nd overall. Jeremy Demers was close behind in 64th place with a combined time of 2:29.74.

Geoff Ballou was 67th with a combined time of 2:31.77, while Sean McCoy was 70th in a combined time of 2:40.91.

The Beavers also competed in the 8.5 km Nordic Freestyle race on the Mt. Van Hoevenberg course, and Ballou posted UMF's top time with a mark of 46:23.44 and finished 41st overall. Dumont was 44th with a time of 53:47.31, with Bill Asbell finishing 45th and Demers placing 46th.
