Rose and Björk own the podiums at UMF Dual Slaloms

WEST FARMINGTON, Maine – Sophomore Alex Rose (Fayette, Maine) and freshman Maria Bjoerk (Falun, Sweden) each took individual firsts to lead the Universit of Maine at Farmington men's and women's alpine ski teams at the UMF Dual Slalom races Saturday at Titcomb Mountain ski area.

Rose clocked a combined time of 1:04.01 on his way to first place. Josh Cooley (Vassalboro, Maine) was next among UMF finishers with a time of 1:08.02, while David Berthiaume (Allentown, N.H.) posted a time of 1:09.46. 

UMaine-Farmington captured the team title with a total time of 3:21.49.WPI finished second (3:30.89) followed by UMaine (3:57.35), and the Bates College "B" team (4:52.64). 

Bjoerk had the fastest women's time in each run on her way to a combined time of 1:08.31. Lindsay Jacques (Jay, Maine) was next among UMF finishers with a time of 1:10.23, while Meghan Donovan (Westborough, Mass.) rounded out the list of UMF's top three finishers with a time of 1:23.37. 

The Beavers won the team crown with a total time of 3:41.91. WPI was second with a time of 3:46.32, followed by UMaine (4:08.01) and the Bates "B" squad (4:35.12).

The UMF ski teams return to the slopes on Saturday, Jan. 26, when they host a giant slalom event at Mt. Abram ski area in Greenwood, Maine.
