UMF men, Keough close out competition at nationals

NEWRY, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington competitive skiing and snowboarding season came to a close today with the final day of the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboarding Association National Championships at Sunday River Ski Resort.

The UMF men's Alpine ski team finished its campaign with a 12th-place finish in the slalom. Rocky Mountain College won the event with a 306.64 followed by Sierra Nevada College (312.40) and St. Olaf College (313.79). The Beavers totaled 366.37 to place 12th out of 20 teams.

Alex Rose (Fayette, Maine) was UMF's top finisher in 25th place with a two-run time of 1:48.94 with Sam Ricker (Turner, Maine) turning in a 45th-place finish in 1:57.33 and Sebastien Dumont (Skowhegan, Maine) in 69th at 2:20.10.

Olle Friberg of RMC won the event with a time of 1:39.97.

On Thursday, the Beavers finished 10th in the giant slalom.

Two-time USCSA National Champion Katie Keough (Cumberland, Maine) ended women's snowboarding competition with a 17th-place finish in the slopestyle on Friday and the 16th spot in the half pipe today.

Sierra Nevada's Ashley Vander Meer earned first in both competitions.
