CLERMONT, Fla. – University of Maine at Farmington softball (1-7) lost a pair of non-conference games to Wisconsin-Oshkosh (5-3) with a 7-0 defeat and fell later in the day to Wisconsin-Stevens Point (4-7) 14-4 at the PFX Invitational.
The contest with Oshkosh was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Titans got on the board with an RBI triple. Two innings later, Oshkosh added four more runs to the frame with three coming on a homerun.
On two separate occasions, the Beavers managed to get the bases loaded with less than two outs but could not find a hole in the Titans' defense to score a run.
Kailyn Hill (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon) pitched a complete game and fanned three batters.
Stevens Points jumped out early but UMF produced three runs in the fourth inning on two hits and two errors. Tasha DeRoche (Peru, Maine/Dirigo) led off with a single and Margaret Fogarty (Auburn, Maine/St. Johnsbury Academy) followed by reaching on an error. The two runners advanced a base after a passed ball and DeRoche later scored on another passed ball. Two batters later, Fogarty crossed the plate on an RBI groundout. Alison Hamilton (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) drove home UMF's third run of the inning with an RBI single.
UMF tacked on one more run in the top of fifth with another RBI groundout.
UMaine-Farmington has a day off on Tuesday but returns to the diamond on Wednesday to play Oswego State and St. Lawrence in the PFX Invitational.
