Softball Opens Florida Trip with Losses to Carthage and Buena Vista

CLERMONT, Fla. – University of Maine at Farmington softball (1-3) opened its spring trip at the PFX Invitational on Sunday evening with a 23-1 loss to Carthage (4-2) fell to Buena Vista (7-5) in the nightcap, 9-1, in non-conference action.

In the fourth inning of the Carthage game, the Beavers plated a run to get on the scored. With two outs in the inning, Ashley Bosio (Caanan, Conn./Houstonic Valley Regional) reached on a throwing error and advanced to second on the Carthage mistake. Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine/Mt. Blue) lined a single through the right side and Bosio hustled around third and crossed the plate to get UMF on the scoreboard. Thompson finished 2-for-2 in the game with the one RBI.

In the fourth inning of the Buena Vista game, Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) broke up a no-hitter with a triple to deep left field. Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) stepped up and hit a bullet into right field and allowed Gleason to trot home easily.

UMaine-Farmington plays Lawrence and Hamilton at the PFX Invitational on Monday.
