Bowdoin Takes Two From Softball in Non-Conference Action

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington softball team fell to Bowdoin College on Sunday in the both games of a non-conference doubleheader at Pickard Field. UMF held an early lead in the first game but lost, 13-1, before falling in game two, 10-0.

The Beavers started game one off with two straight singles to left field by Shelby Bryant (So. Portland, Maine) and Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine). After an infield groundout, Natasha DeRoche (Peru, Maine) reached on a fielder's choice and Bryant was able to score on the play.

Bowdoin tied the game in the bottom of the first inning and then took the lead for good with three runs in the second inning.

Alison Hamilton (Portsmouth, R.I.), Bryant, and Bond each had a pair of hits to lead the UMF offense.

Courtney Fowler (Greensboro, N.C.) started in the circle for Farmington and pitched three innings before Abby Burdin (Guilford, Maine) came on for an inning of relief and had two strikeouts.

UMF was held to only two hits in the second game. Hamilton led off the game with a single and Fowler singled in the third inning.

UMaine-Farmington plays day three of a four-day non-conference stretch on Monday with a doubleheader at Southern Maine at 3:30 p.m.
