WATERVILLE, Maine -- Thomas College slipped past the University of Maine at Farmington 7-6, 5-3 for a North Atlantic Conference softball sweep of the Beavers this afternoon.
The Beavers (4-6 overall, 2-2 NAC) are scheduled to host Johnson State College in conference play Friday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The Terriers improved to 5-15 (2-2).
In the opener, the Terriers scored three times in the fifth inning to take the 7-6 victory.
Kaitlyn Bartlett (Chesterville, Maine), Jillian Withee (Salem TWP, Maine) and Meaghan Donnell (Rochester, N.H.) each had a run-scoring hit as UMF took a 5-3 lead in the fourth. After scoring a run in the home half of the frame, Kate Thibodeau and Alyssa Eugley each had an RBI single as the Terriers struck for three in the fifth for a 7-5 lead.
Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) singled twice and doubled for the Beavers. Mitchell also scored on an error in the seventh to get UMF to 7-6. Bartlett finished with a pair of doubles and two RBI as the Beavers collected 10 hits.
Emma Vaillancourt (Saco, Maine) went six innings in the loss with nine hits allowed, five walks and three strikeouts.
Eugley posted a three-hit day with two doubles and a singles with Thibodeau supplying two singles.
Sara Pavento went the distance in the win with 10 hits given up, two bases on balls and three strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Thomas was able to grab a 5-3 darkness-abbreviated win over the Beavers.
Amy Jones (Augusta, Maine) doubled twice and plated a pair of runs in the loss, while Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine) and Michelle Cote (Arundel, Maine) each turned in two hits and Hannah Lust (Bangor, Maine) doubled.
Bartlett was hit with the loss with six hits allowed, five walks and one strikeout.
Molly Woodward rapped two singles with two RBI for the Terriers.
Kelsey Crowe, who had an RBI double, notched the victory with eight hits allowed and eight strikeouts. Crowe did not walk a batter.
