NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University squeaked past the University of Maine at Farmington 3-2, 2-1 in non-conference softball action this evening at Toppa Field.
The Beavers (2-2) are scheduled to visit Curry College Thursday for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. The Seahawks ran their record to 9-7.
In the opener, the Seahawks pushed across three runs in the second inning and held on to defeat UMF 3-2.
Emma Vaillancourt went the distance in the loss with nine hits allowed, two walks and six strikeouts.
Jen Cruver rapped a pair of hits, including a two-run single, for Salve Regina. Jennifer Ednine was also a repeat hitter for the Seahawks with Kristen Parolise providing a double.
Cruver also notched the pitching victory, striking out 10 and walking two in a complete-game effort.
In game two, Marissa Simpson singled home Cruver in the seventh to lift Salve Regina past the Beavers 2-1.
With UMF leading 1-0 on a Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) RBI single, he Seahawks tied the game in the sixth when Megan Jakiela plated Ali Muehlbronner with a sacrifice fly.
Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine) smacked a triple in the loss with Bartlett and Jones each adding a single.
Bartlett was hit with the loss with five walks and two strikouts over 6.1 innings.
Muehlbronner clubbed a double and a triple for the Seahawks.
Cruver stymied the Beavers with four hits allowed, three walks and 13 strikeouts.
