BANGOR, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Robert Hollis (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) led the men's cross country team to a second place finish at the 2015 Husson Invitational on Saturday.
Hollis placed second in the 5k race with an overall time of 28:10:5 and averaged nearly an event-best 5:40:1 mile. Connor Wagner (Bangor, Maine/John Bapst Memorial) also grabbed a top five spot by crossing the line at 28:23:5 in the fourth spot. Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thorton Academy) was only three seconds away from a top ten finish with an overall time of 29:37:8 in 11th place. Kadir Hassan (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) came in 34th and Austin Gatcomb (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip) placed 42nd to round out the Beavers scoring.
The Beavers were competing with New England College for the team title and the individual title. NEC won the event with 48 points while UMF claimed 89 points. The two teams were responsible for four of the top five racers in the event. UMF placed second overall among eight teams in the field of 80 racers.
UMaine-Farmington will compete in the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday, September 12.
