PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington's men's soccer improved to 4-3 on the season with a 3-0 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon in Presque Isle.
The game remained scoreless for most of the first half as both teams were unable to produce a good rush on goal. With less than three minutes left in the first half, Junior Ethan Stufoso was able to get a shot past Owl goalie Matt Manter for a 1-0 lead. The Beavers took the lead into the break.
UMF was able to dominate play in the second half, holding UMPI without a shot on goal. The Beavers scored their second goal of the game in the 73rd minute when Nick Marshall converted a Hunter Michaud pass for a 2-0 lead. UMF would add its last goal 12 minutes later, as Jake Heimlich scored with Tyler Caswell assisting.
Senior goalie Matt Wilson (4-3) didn't have to make a save to earn the shutout win.
UMF outshot UMPI 18-4 and held a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Beavers also held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-0.
UMaine-Farmington travels to USM on Wednesday (4:00 pm) for a non-conference game.
