Beavers Place Four in Top Ten

While incoming weather forced the cancellation of the Classic race on Sunday the UMF Men and Women continued to make progress with promising performances in the 5km Freestyle race Saturday at Presque Isle. Isaiah Reid once again led the Men with a second place finish on the perfectly groomed fast course with a time of 15:56, behind Connor Nilson of PI with a time of 15:26. Connor Marland and Thomas Wing and Jason Labbe battled once again with Wing making a move on Marland but was unable to pass and ended up 4th. Jason Labbe was 5th one second behind Wing. The Men clinched the top spot with a score of 14 points to UMPI's 28. Marland, Wing and Labbe all finished within two seconds and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top this weekend at Mountain Top in Vermont at the Castleton Invitational. Having such a close group makes things exciting and enables them to push each other.

The Women placed second with 18 points to UMPI's 14. They were led by Mullein Francis in third and Emily Eaton in fourth. These first-year skiers continue
to improve and will form the basis of the team in the future.
