Salute to Seniors - Golf

UMaine-Farmington salutes the golf seniors, Justin Rodrigue, from Augusta, Maine, and Noah Preble, from Wilton, Maine, Dexter Wright, from Columbia, Maine, and Charles De Haas, from Winthrop, Maine.

Each senior shared a few answers to six different questions. See answers below.

Justin Rodrigue

  1. My Favorite movie is The Greatest Game Ever Played

  2. My favorite athlete is Tiger Woods

  3. My best golf memory is finishing 3rd at the UMF invitational

  4. I chose UMF because it is affordable, great ability to compete

  5. My best UMF memory is overnights with the team on weekend tournaments

  6. My advice to returning players would be to enjoy every round, focus less on winning and more on developing your game. Support your teammates!

"A true competitor for himself and the team. Justin has embraced the spirit of competition as a pathway for personnel goals. In this spirit he has given encouragement to others on his team and respected his opponents. His role of captain reflected this spirit" said coach Timmins.

Noah Preble

  1. My Favorite movie Four Days in October

  2. My favorite athlete is Tiger Woods

  3. My favorite golfing memory was the alumni tournament we had at Wilson Lake last year.

  4. I chose UMF because they reached out and wanted me to play for them early on. It is also a nice community feel being in downtown Farmington.

  5. My best UMF memory is the NAC Tourney being held at UMF last winter, for sure. It was electric.

  6. My advice to returning players would be don't ever get discouraged with your play. Just attack the next shot and keep moving forward.

"Bitten by the golf bug as a junior and sidelined as a senior with a golfer's back. There was never enough time to channel the enthusiasm and excitement he showed for the game" said coach Timmins.

Dexter Wright

  1. My Favorite movie is Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith

  2. My Favorite athlete is Bubba Watson

  3. My favorite golf memory is playing in the Southern Maine Cup

  4. I chose UMF because I wanted to go to a school that had small class sizes and ample opportunities to explore different academic fields.

  5. My favorite UMF memory is making lifelong friendships during my freshman year.

  6. My advice to returning golfers is, in your golf swing, don't try to fix what isn't broken. Listen to the coach's advice, he knows what he's talking about.

"Dexter is a definition of perseverance. Maybe down but never out, one swing forward, always with a smile" said coach Timmins

Charles De Haas

  1. My favorite movie is The Dirt

  2. My favorite athlete is Tiger Woods

  3. My favorite golf memory is overnight trips

  4. I chose UMF because it was affordable and within reasonable distance to home, and my business program is one of a kind

  5. My favorite UMF memory are the dances on campus

  6. I would tell returning players that 4 footers aren't gimmes in tournaments

"In his four years as a member of the golf team, Charlie has grown to become a leader. He gained maturity on the golf course each year and mirrored that maturity each academic year. As a senior, he can face adversity, evaluate options, and overcome. He has been a strength as a captain" said coach Timmins.
