Husson senior Conor Maguire has been selected as both the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Baseball Senior Scholar Athlete and the Player of the Year. Northern Vermont-Lyndon senior Jake Jourdain was named Pitcher of the Year, and Husson freshman Kobe Rogerson was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Thomas College head coach Greg King was voted the Coach of the Year. Five baseball student-athletes were named to the Sportsmanship Team, and eleven student athletes were awarded All-Conference honors.
NAC All-Conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
Conor Maguire (Ellsworth, Maine) is the 2019 NAC Baseball Player of the Year, and also earned the Senior Scholar Athlete award. Maguire carries a 3.78 GPA as a Business Administration major with a concentration in Management. He has been a member of both the Husson and NAC All-Academic Teams throughout his career. Maguire volunteered at the Bangor Chamber of Commerce dinner twice and helped coach a youth Sluggers AAU team. During the 2019 season, Maguire led the league with a .596 slugging percentage and six doubles in 16 games. He hit 21-for-57 (.368) with only three strikeouts, scored 14 runs, and batted-in ten more. Across all games, Maguire led the NAC with 57 hits, eight triples, and 79 total bases, as well as a .365 batting average and .506 slugging percentage. Maguire stole 13 bases and did not make an error in the outfield all season (1.000 fielding percentage), helping the Eagles earn the top seed in the NAC Baseball tournament. The Eagles won the NAC tournament and will host Baruch College this weekend in the best-of-three NAC Championship series.
Northern Vermont University-Lyndon senior Jake Jourdain (Becket, Mass.) is the 2019 NAC Baseball Pitcher of the Year. In conference games, Jourdain led all pitchers with three wins, two complete games, and one shutout in seven starts. He only allowed four earned runs and held opponents to a .183 batting average in 109 at bats. He collected 28 strikeouts (8.59 per game) in 29 innings pitched. In total, Jourdain started 11 games for the Hornets and tallied seven wins (.636 win percentage). He struck out 77 batters (9.90 per game) whom he held to a .179 batting average in 252 at bats. Jourdain finished the regular season with a league leading 1.67 earned run average.
Husson freshman Kobe Rogerson (Brewer, Maine) is the 2019 NAC Baseball Rookie of the Year. The starting second baseman was awarded Rookie of the Week honors three times this season. In conference games, Rogerson hit 19-for-49 for a .368 batting average, which is second-best overall and tops for freshman. In all games, Rogerson had 47 hits in 129 at bats for a .364 batting average, second best in the NAC. He hit six doubles, knocked in 23 runs, and crossed the plate 34 times. He scored in 22 games and is credited with at least one RBI in 15 games, including a total of seven RBI in the final four-game series of the regular season to help the Eagles clinch the number one seed and home field advantage for the NAC Baseball tournament. They went on to win the tournament with the help of seven hits, four runs, and two RBI from Rogerson.
Thomas College head coach Greg King is the 2019 NAC Baseball Coach of the Year. This is the fourth NAC Coach of the Year award for King, and sixth across his career. He was twice voted as the Maine Athletic Conference Coach of the Year prior to joining the NAC. Under King's guidance this season, the Terriers collected a 10-6 record in conference games and a 14-24 record overall. Five players were recognized for impressive performances with Athlete of the Week honors, and one player made the All-Conference team. Thomas earned the No. 3 seed in the NAC Baseball Tournament and finished as the runner up. This reflects a dramatic improvement from only one year ago, when Thomas ended the year 8-30 overall and 5-17 in the North Atlantic Conference.
Joining Maguire, Jourdain, and Rogerson on the 2019 NAC Baseball All-Conference Team are senior catcher Jason Doris, senior first baseman Zak Johnson, senior shortstop Ben Rollins, and sophomore outfielder Caleb Laroche of Northern Vermont-Lyndon; junior third baseman Chase Malloy, junior utility player Derek Bowen, and junior pitcher Gavin Arsenault of the University of Maine at Farmington; and sophomore Alex Miller of Thomas.
