Baseball Splits at Thomas; Rematch Set for Thursday

WATERVILLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team (15-11, 8-8) tried to make up some on Thomas College with a doubleheader at H. Allen Ryan Field on Wednesday afternoon. The twinbill was split with Thomas taking game one, 3-2, and UMF rebounding in game two with a, 4-0, shutout victory.

Thomas had two runners cross the plate in the first inning for the early lead and stood until Grayson Beressi (Falmouth, Maine) scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to close the gap.

Beressi tied the game with an RBI single to left field in the top of the fourth but the Terriers scored the decisive run in the bottom of the frame.

Nate Pushard (Auburn, Maine) pitched a complete with five strikeouts and surrendered one earned run.

The Beavers rebounded in the first inning of game two with a pair of runs. Ethan Gouin (Sidney, Maine) reached on an error but it was enough for Trevor Hisler (Skowhegan, Maine) to cross the plate. Sean Cabaniss (Vassalboro, Maine) doubled the lead with an RBI single to center field.

Mark Leahy (Rochester, N.H.) padded the lead with an RBI double in the fourth inning and Jordan Croteau (So. Paris, Maine) smacked a sacrifice fly in the six inning for UMF's final run of the game.

Jimmy Neal (Farmington, Maine) scattered five hits over six innings and struck out two Thomas batters. Brett Elliott (Danville, Vt.) shut the door in the seventh with a three-up, three-down inning.

UMaine-Farmington and Thomas switch roles on Thursday for a doubleheader at Hippach Field. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
