AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team slipped to 1-4 with a 13-6 loss to Florida Christian College today at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.
Ed Flaherty (Baileyville, Maine) singled twice for the Beavers, who collected 11 hits on the afternoon. Ethan Jean (Jackson, Maine) and Brett Wallingford (Sanford, Maine) each smacked a double in the loss.
Trailing 7-1 after four innings,Wallingford's two-run two-bagger along with run-scoring hits by Jean and Jack MacVane (Mechanic Falls, Maine) helped UMF draw to 7-5. The two teams exchanged a run apiece in the sixth, but the Suns (18-15) scored once in the seventh and four times in the eighth to put the game away.
Eric Santamaria and Mark Vidal led FCC with three singles and a double each as the Suns recorded 18 hits. Vidal, Alfredo D'Amelio, Anthony Garcia and Ty Quidort each drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Joe Sullivan took the loss for the Beavers. Sullivan gave up nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts over four innings.
Andres Cancio earned the FCC win with nine hits allowed and six strikeouts in five innings.
