GORHAM, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s cross country team finished eight while the women’s squad placed ninth at the Maine Collegiate Cross Country Championships, Saturday at the University of Southern Maine.
The men’s team tallied 236 points in the five mile race, led by Jackson Fortin (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) who was 61st overall with a time of 28:12. Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was 74th in 28:49, while Jamie Williams (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) was third among UMF competitors, 120th overall, with a time of 31:52.
The UMF women’s cross country team finished with 253 points on USM’s 5000m course, paced by Salena Sykes’ (Island Pond, Vt./North Country Union) 71st-place finish with a time of 20:57. Rookie Farren Welzel (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) was 82nd overall with a time of 21:12, while Cadyn Wilson (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) was 103rd with a time of 22:05.
Both UMaine-Farmington cross country squads are idle next weekend, taking a final weekend of rest prior to the North Atlantic Conference Championship meets on Saturday, Oct. 27, at New England College in Henniker, N.H.
