Pilgrims pounce on Beavers, post NAC East win
HENNIKER, N.H. -- New England College jumped out to an 9-0 start and rolled to the 20-6 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference East Division women's lacrosse this afternoon.
The Beavers (4-5 overall, 2-3 NAC East) are slated to close out their regular season Sunday as UMF visits Green Mountain College in divisional play at noon. NEC (8-8) bolstered its NAC East record to 4-1.
NEC started the scoring just over a minute into the game as Chantale Lacroix (Manchester, N.H.) recorded her 31st goal of the season assisted by Amanda Naimie (York, Maine). The Pilgrims followed the opening goal with eight more scores going up 9-0 at the 10:20 mark in the first.
UMF got on the scoreboard with five minutes remaining in the half as Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) recorded her team-leading 23rd goal of the season on a Beaver free-position. The Beavers continued their attack closing out the half with three more goals, including a free-position goal by Marisa Hanning (Hebron, Maine), to head into halftime trailing just 9-4.
NEC exploded for four straight goals building their lead back up to 13-4 to open the second half. UMF answered with two goals, but that was as close as the Beavers would get as the Pilgrims closed out the half with seven straight goals solidifying the 20-6 victory.
Leading the way for the Pilgrims was Naimie who finished with four goals and four assists. NEC's Emily Bamberger (Brimfield, Mass.) recorded three goals and dished out six assists, while Lacroix finished with two goals and four assists.
Leading the way for Farmington was Emma Morrison, who finished with two goals. Hanning, Abbey Gilbert (Wilton, Maine), Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine) and Hilary Morrison (Camden, Maine) each netted a goal in the loss.
Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Rebecca Harvey (Natick, Mass.) who finished with eight saves.
In goal for Farmington was Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, Maine), who recorded an impressive 11 saves on the afternoon.
