Beavers ranked seventh in NAC East women's lacrosse

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team was voted seventh in the North Atlantic Conference East Division preseason coaches poll released this morning.

In 2011, the Beavers finished 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the NAC East. UMF advanced to the NAC East semifinals.

Castleton State College has been chosen to win the NAC East Division Championship in a preseason poll of the conference coaches. The Spartans received four first-place votes and 42 total points, narrowly edging Colby-Sawyer College (40) and Husson University (three first-place votes, 39). New England College (28), Green Mountain College (20), Thomas College (16) and UMF (11) rounded out the poll.

North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) members Cazenovia, College of St. Elizabeth, Keuka, Medaille, Penn State - Abington, SUNY Morrisville, Wells, and Wilson play as associate members of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) in a West Division. Each division holds a championship and the two divisional champions meet to determine the conference champion.

The Beavers are scheduled to open their 2012 campaign on March 10 at the University of Southern Maine. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
