Beavers Split Season Opener with Presque Isle

Topsham, Maine – UMaine Farmington split their season opener with UMaine Presque Isle with a 4-2 loss in the first game of the double header and a 6-1 win in the second game at the Howard Sports Dome.

IN THE BOX

Game 1

-       Alison Hamilton and Kylie Cunningham each had two hits in the game while Cunningham went 2-3 with an RBI and a walk.

-       Jackie Peers went 2-3 for the Owls while Emma Gogan knocked in one run.

-       The Beavers had two runs on eight hits with five errors while the Owls had four runs on five hits and one error.

The Owls had three unearned runs in the game in the fourth inning when Kiana Thompson missed played a ball in center field allowing Gogan to score. Strout then reached on an error by the first basemen and later went on to score another unearned run.

Game 2

-       Margaret Fogarty led the Beavers going 3-4 at the plate with two RBI's and two runs while Kylie Cunningham also went 3-4 with a run.

-       The Owls had multiple batters that went 2-4 at the plate. Ariel Williams, Jordi Legassie and Ayana Walker tallied eight of the Owls 10 hits.

-       The Beavers notched a total of 13 hits to go along with six runs.

The Beavers opened up the game in the third inning when Forarty doubled to deep left center which scored Dillan and Cunningham. Grady then reached first base on an error which allowed Fogarty to score.
