UMF ends regular season with losses to Husson
FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington softball team finished its regular season on today as the Beavers were swept by Husson University 2-1, 7-1 in North Atlantic Conference play at Prescott Field.
UMF (10-20 overall, 6-10 NAC) and Husson (27-9, 15-1) await the NAC postseason seedings. The quarterfinals are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
In the first game, Brianna Webster (Belfast, Maine) bunted home Lona Sargent (Sullivan, Maine) in the fifth inning as the Eagles eked out a 2-1 victory over UMF.
An RBI single by Aimee Mortensen (Biddeford, Maine) gave Husson a 1-0 lead in the second, but Meaghan Donnell (Rochester, N.H.) tied the game at 1-1 with a run-scoring single in the home half of the frame.
Donnell was the lone repeat hitter in the game with a pair of singles, while Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) clubbed a double. Donnell and Mitchell were recognized prior to the game as the UMF seniors playing in their final regular-season home games at Prescott Field.
Kaitlyn Bartlett (Chesterville, Maine) gave up five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in the loss.
Becca McCarty (Skowhegan, Maine) threw seven innings in the win with four hits allowed, a base on balls and five strikeouts.
