Mariners muffle UMF, take twinbill
CASTINE, Maine --The University of Maine at Farmington dropped a doubleheader to Maine Maritime Academy 5-1, 7-5 in North Atlantic Conference softball action this afternoon at Ritchie Field.
The Beavers (10-18 overall, 6-9 NAC) are scheduled to host Husson University on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Mariners evened their record at 14-14 overall (7-9 NAC).
In the opener, Abby Yeo hurled a three-hitter and the Mariners struck for four runs in the sixth inning to grab a 5-1 win over the Beavers.
Andi Flannery and Cindy Schultz each had an RBI single as MMA broke open a 1-1 game with the four-run frame
Bartlett tossed a complete game with two walks and four strikeouts.
Flannery finished with two singles for the Mariners, who received a run-scoring double by Sabrina Keach to tie the game at 1-1 in the first.
Yeo walked one and struck out six in the win.
In game two, Erica Taylor homered twice, drove in five runs and earned the complete-game victory as MMA posted a 7-5 victory over the Beavers.
Bartlett again led the Beavers offensively with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate and two RBI, while Hannah Lust (Bangor, Maine) singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Amy Jones (Augusta, Maine) also singled and doubled for UMF with Michelle Cote (Arundel, Maine) also providing two hits.
Bartlett allowed eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts in the loss.
Following Taylor, Keach rapped a single and a double with two RBI with Schultz going 3 for 3 in the nightcap.
Taylor gave up 11 hits, issued one free pass and set down three via strikeout over seven innings.
