Beavers Selected to Finished Sixth in Preseason Poll

6. UMaine-Farmington (11-15, 10-8 NAC) will be under the guidance of veteran head coach, Dick Meader. The Beavers will look to get back to the NAC Tournament with Riley Robinson (Dixfield, Maine), who averaged 13.1 ppg last year, and Isaac Witham (Smithfield, Maine), who averaged 12 ppg, while Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) adds a new aspect to the Beavers. The team looks to continue to get back into tournament contention and will open the season with WPI on November 17

Husson was tabbed the favorite in the 2017-18 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll. The defending champion Eagles were the unanimous choice after claiming all ten first-place votes for a total of 100 points.

Colby-Sawyer was selected second with 79 points, while Castleton and Thomas tied for third with 66 points apiece. Lyndon took fifth with 57 points, while UMaine-Farmington placed sixth with 55 points and New England College took seventh with 45 points. Rounding out the poll were Johnson in eighth (39 points), Green Mountain in ninth (27 points), and Maine Maritime in tenth (16 points).

Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the league's head men's basketball coaches.

The top six teams in the 2017-18 poll competed in the NAC Tournament last season, with Husson claiming the top seed, Castleton at No. 2, Thomas as No. 3, Lyndon at No. 4, UMaine-Farmington was No. 5, and Colby-Sawyer claimed the sixth seed. The seeds held in the quarterfinals, as the No. 4 Hornets earned an 88-66 win over the No. 5 Beavers and the No. 3 Terriers claimed a 77-71 victory over the No. 6 Chargers. Semifinal action saw Thomas upset the second-seeded Spartans, 71-57, while the No. 1 Eagles defeated Lyndon 98-84. Top-seeded Husson then recorded an 89-67 victory over Thomas to capture the NAC Championship Title.

After claiming their sixth NAC title in the last nine years, the Eagles went on to compete in the NCAA Tournament. In the first round of the national tournament, Husson saw its season come to a close as the Eagles were defeated by the eventual 2017 NCAA Champions, Babson College, 92-76.

All ten NAC men's basketball teams will kick off their quest for the 2017-18 conference title this week. The top six teams in the regular-season conference standings will qualify for the NAC tournament, which gets underway Tuesday, February 20, with quarterfinal action between seeds 3-6. The top two seeds will earn a bye in the first round and will take on the two quarterfinal winners in the semifinals on Friday, February 23. The two semifinal victors will battle for the NAC Championship on Saturday, February 24.
