Johnson, Dickey, and Meader earn NAC conference honors

FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington junior Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine/Maranacook) was named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and UMF head coach Dick Meader was tabbed for NAC Coach of the Year, when the league's list of post-season honors was announced Wednesday.

Johnson was also named to the All-NAC First Team, while junior Andrew Dickey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) was a Second Team All-NAC selection.

Johnson leads the conference in both scoring (21.8 ppg) and rebounding (11.2 rpg) through 18 conference games this season, and earned NAC Player of the Week honors on four occasions. Overall, he has 20.5 ppg and 10.5 rpg, and is among the top 30 players in all of Division III in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage (.590 FG pct.). He was named a Capital One Second Team Academic All-American earlier this week.

Johnson has 532 total points this season, fourth among UMaine-Farmington single season scoring leaders.

Dickey has averaged 13.9 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Beavers this season, and ranks 10th in the league in scoring. He has 40 3-point field goals to his credit this season and has 40 steals, and is second in the NAC in foul shooting with a .828 percentage at the line.

Meader was named NAC Coach of the Year for the second time, after sharing Co-Coach of the Year honors in 2010. Under Meader's tutelage, the Beavers posted a 15-3 record in NAC play and were ranked among the top half of the conference in every major statistical category. UMF's 21-5 record heading into the NAC Tournament semifinals is tied for the most wins in a season in program history.

UMaine-Farmington, the top seed of the 2013 NAC Men's Basketball Tournament, will host fourth-seeded Castleton State on Friday, Feb. 22, at 6:00 p.m. at Dearborn Gym.
