Cochrane medals at UMF Invitational, Beavers finish fourth

NEWRY, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington senior Orion Cochrane (Greenville, Maine/Greenville) was one of three competitors to shoot a low round of 76 to finish atop the leaderboard at the UMaine-Farmington Golf Invitational, held Thursday at the Sunday River Golf Club.

Overall, UMaine-Farmington finished fourth out of eight teams after carding a total of 332. The University of Southern Maine shot a 320 to win the event, while the University of New England was second with a 325. Husson University shot a 326 to finish third.

Joining Cochrane with rounds of 76 were USM's Josh Hogan and Husson's William Hutchins.

Rounding out the top four for UMaine-Farmington were junior Joe Messerman (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick), who carded an 83 on the par 72 Sunday River course. David Berthiaume (Allenstown, N.H./Pembroke Academy) fired an 86, while Simon Rollins (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) shot 87. Dan Zmisgowski (Old Town, Maine/Old Town) posted a round of 96, but was outside the top four for the Beavers.

The UMF golf team's 2012 season continues on Saturday, Sept. 15, when the squad competes at the Husson Invitational .
