Ashey garners national weekly recognition
FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington junior pitcher Casey Ashey (Searsport, Maine) earned Honorable Mention distinction for NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week for April 16-22 as voted on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Ashey had a hand in all three of the team's victories last week as the junior's regular start, a 5-3 complete-game win at Lyndon State College, was bookended by saves vs. Thomas College and New England College. He did not allow an unearned run over 9.1 innings with six hits allowed and seven strikeouts. He also did not allow a hit in relief.
Castleton State College's Tyler Erickson, the North Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, was feted as the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week.
Ashey was joined in the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week Honorable Mention by Dave Trushel (Washington & Jefferson), Kyle Konarski (Manchester), Steven Melchiorre (Rowan), Rob Dittrick (Pacific), Jeff Spillane (Texas Lutheran), Zach Frappier (Concordia (Minn.)) and Tanner Barron (Trinity (Texas)).
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
The Beavers finished their season with an 8-28 record.
