Winchenbach, Woodbury earn All-NEAC East First Team
FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington junior outfielder/pitcher Dale Winchenbach (Waldoboro, Maine) and freshman catcher Matthew Woodbury (Fairfield, Maine) were named to the All-North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division First Team for baseball as announced by the conference today.
All-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
Winchenbach batted .303, including six doubles and a home run, with a team-best 18 runs batted in. The junior also went 4-0 on the mound -- three NEAC East wins -- with a 3.00 earned-run average over 27 innings pitched.
This is the first all-conference recognition for Winchenbach.
Woodbury, an All-NEAC East Rookie of the Week once this season, hit .320 this season with six doubles and 15 RBI.
In addition to the individual accolades, UMF was honored with the conference's Team Sportsmanship Award.
Castleton junior second baseman Ryan Zielinski was honored as the NEAC East Player of the Year in a vote by the division's coaches. The 2010 Rookie of the Year, Zielinski is the first Spartan to win the award since 2004.
New England College catcher Juan Berrios earned Rookie of the Year honors, while Castleton's David Brandt was named NEAC East Defensive Player of the Year.
Thomas head coach Greg King was selected as NEAC East Division Coach of the Year for the second-straight season and third time in his career.
The Beavers finished their season at 8-28.
