Student-athletes honored at seventh annual Beaver Social
FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington student-athletes, coaches and athletics department staff recently gathered for the seventh annual Beaver Social at the North Dining Hall.
The Beaver Social is the end-of-the year celebration event for
all student athletes and staff
to enjoy a great meal and celebrate the 2011 -12 academic and
athletic year. The event was sponsored by UMF Dining and
Aramark.
The Beaver Pride Award was presented at the banquet as well as new awards: Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year, Team Academic Award and Senior Student-Athletes of the Year.
The Beaver Pride Award is given annually to a male and female student-athlete who embodies sportsmanship, school spirit, the drive for excellence, and most importantly beaver pride. These athletes are role models for the UMF community and make good choices. The award is voted on by student-athletes.
Men's basketball student-athlete Dan Kane (Bradford, Maine) and women's basketball/lacrosse student-athlete Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) were honored with the Beaver Pride Award by their peers.
Kane and Morrison were also feted as the Senior Scholar Athletes as the seniors with the highest individual cumulative grade-point average.
The UMF women's soccer team earned the Team Academic Award as the team with the highest cumulative grade-point average.

Men's soccer student-athlete Sean Raph (Waterville, Maine) was honored as the Male Senior Student-Athlete of the Year. Raph was a two-time all-conference honoree.
Women's snowboarding student-athlete Katie Keough (Cumberland, Maine) was recognized as the Female Senior Student-Athlete of the Year. Keough was a two-time United States Collegiate Skiing and Snowboarding Association National Champion and three-time USCSA All-American in the giant slalom.
Coinciding with the Beaver Social, student-athletes participated in a food drive to benefit the Care and Share Food Cupboard in Farmington.
