The #1 moment of the 2016-17 athletic season is the field hockey team winning the North Atlantic Conference championship. Field Hockey was the only team this athletic season to win a conference championship.
To start the, season the Beavers won four non-conference games in a row to get the season off on the right foot. After a tough loss in their conference opener the Beavers never looked back winning their last four games in conference play. This included wins against rivals Husson and Thomas. They also won a 1-0 home conference game against Colby-Sawyer. The Beavers also earned two non-conference wins against the University of Southern Maine.
In the playoffs the Beavers entered as the #1 seed. They beat Thomas 4-0 setting up a NAC East Championship game against Husson. The game went into double overtime before Andrea Stemm broke the 0-0 tie with a goal off a penalty corner. This advanced the Beavers to the NAC Championship game against Wells College.
They earned a hard fought win against Wells beating them 3-2. This win advanced the Beavers to the NCAA tournament.
This great season earned the team many individual honors as Emmah Spahr was named player of the year, Lee-Anne Greenleaf was an All-Conference defender, and Cyndi Pratt was named coach of the year.
The Beavers return a lot of their team this season and hope to return to the NCAA tournament.
