Beavers Women's Soccer Hope To Win Sunrise Conference
Back from their red-hot 17-4 record in 2001, the Beavers will be back in action defending last year’s championship season. Led by a strong nucleus of six starting seniors, this experienced team hopes to make big waves in the newly formed Sunrise Conference.
The field will be covered with seniors: Richelle Dube on the frontline and captains Megan Woodcock and Shannon Mailhot at midfield drive the offense and Lindsay Tatarczuk and Jodi Dodge cover the defensive end. Veteran goalie, captain and 2000 and 2001 2nd Team All Conference star Alyson Pontbriand will protect the goal.
The team will also benefit with hot new recruits Stacy LeBlanc of Standish and Hope Pillsbury of Skowhegan at fullback and Jill Dunton of Rumford playing striker.
Veteran 26-year coach Bob Leib says that last year’s success will be “tough to duplicate” but if there is a team that can do it, this is the one. “It’s always a challenge now that they’ve finally got on top to stay on the top.” He says. “It’s twice as hard to stay on top as it is to get there. But, we’ve got good team chemistry and good ideas out there on the field. We have a very experienced team and good senior leadership. This team has the drive to win and as long as we can keep everyone healthy, we hope to be the first ones to win the Sunrise Conference.”
