Women's cross country wins NAC title
The University of Maine at Farmington women's cross country team captured the North Atlantic Conference title for fourth time in five years at Johnson State College today.
The Beavers totaled 25 points to capture the crown with Castleton (58), Lyndon State (72), Green Mountain (96) and Johnson State (118) rounded out the field.
Lyndon's Lindsey Calkins (Danville, VT) was the top finisher on the 5K run with a time of 18:52 -- the only competitor under 20 minutes -- and was honored as the NAC Runner of the Year. Melani St. Pierre (Charlestown, NH) was the first Farmington runner to cross the finish line at third at 20:30 and named the NAC Rookie of the Year. Emily Farley (Bernard, ME) at fourth in 21:05, Lyn Plog (Avon, ME) at sixth at 21:29, Emily Weston (Rumford, ME) at seventh in 21:38 and Rebecca Cunningham (Eliot, ME) at eighth in 21:59 helped the Beavers seal the victory and gave them All-NAC First Team accolades. Meagan Champagne (Littleton, NH) also earned All-NAC Second Team honors
Farmington's Ryan Wagner shared NAC Coach of the Year honors with Lyndon State's Chris Ummer. Castleton received Team Sportsmanship honors.
