Laflin recognized on All-NAC First Team

FARMINGTON -- University of Maine at Farmington junior forward Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) was named to the All-North Atlantic Conference First Team for women's basketball as the conference announced postseason awards today.

NAC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of conference coaches. Additional players honored are due to ties in the voting. Conference statistics were used in the voting process.

Also earning NAC honors for the Beavers were senior guard Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) on the All-NAC Second Team and senior guard Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) on the NAC Honorable Mention.

The 2006-07 NAC Rookie of the Year and 2007-08 NAC Player of the Year, Laflin is the recipient of all-conference honors for a third time. The junior led the conference in scoring, averaging 19.0 points per game with 8.4 rebounds, while shooting more than 50 percent from the field and nearly 86 percent from the foul line. Laflin was joined on the All-NAC First Team by Castleton's Jessica Banks, Husson's Shelby Bradford, Husson's Bree Hanscom and Maine Maritime's Tatum Welch.

Porter averaged 13.5 points per conference contest and also hit nearly 86 percent of her foul shots.

A NAC Honorable Mention honoree last season, Byrne returned with 4.4 assists per game, second in the NAC.

Bradford was honored as the NAC Player of the Year, while Hanscom received NAC Rookie of the Year honors. Husson's Kissy Walker was named the NAC Coach of the Year.

The Beavers (15-10) are scheduled to take on Castleton in the NAC semifinals on Friday at 8 p.m. at Husson University.
