Women's basketball wins at Green Mountain
POULTNEY, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team ran its record to 7-0 in the North Atlantic Conference with a 73-62 victory over Green Mountain College tonight.
The Beavers, who have won six straight games, improved to 9-8 overall and are scheduled to visit Castleton State College Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest. Green Mountain dropped to 8-8 (2-4).
Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingale, ME) led the Beavers with 22 points, while Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) chipped in 15 points and Samantha Wiley (Lincolnville, ME) supplied 10 points.
Despite a second half surge by Green Mountain, the Beavers held on for the victory. Farmington shot 52.6 percent in the second half and 50.9 percent on the night and drilled seven of 17 three-pointers.
Farmington opened the game with a 12-5 run spanning 2:20 and never let up as they led by as many as 19 points before closing the half with a 16-point advantage (42-26).
The Eagles closed the gap to 44-37 at the 15:23 mark of the second half, but could not come any closer the rest of the way.
Christina Chamberlin (Woodstock, VT) led the Eagles with 17 points and was a perfect 11 for 11 from the free throw line. Molly Hopper ( Gouvernor, NY) added 18 points while Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) recorded a double double (10 points and 11 rebounds) and blocked five shots.
